Live session of Bird in a Hurricane
recorded at the wonderful Chicken Shed music studio, Beckford near Tewkesbury
belBig thanks to Steven Wood, owner and builder of the wonderful Chicken Shed music studio, who also recorded, engineered and befriended us on the day. Looking forward to collaborating again soon! And big thanks to our good friend Katherine Panton-Kent, a.k.a KPK, for an epic handheld uninterrupted single shot of the whole song, on iphone in trickly lighting conditions!!
NEWS FLASH: STUDIO VERSION COMING SOON
The full fat studio version of Bird in a Hurricane is being released on February 7th on Spotify, Bandcamp and all major streaming and online store services. A link to the single will be on here. Our third single from the current line-up Bird in the Hurricane has only been released as a live studio session video previously. This is the full fat version and another step toward our new album. We have settled into recording, producing, mixing and mastering our own projects as the results we get are as good as the hybrid approach we took on earlier albums. However this takes time and we have something of a recording backlog with most of our current set still unreleased, so it feels good to get this one out there!
In gig news we have been invited to do two gigs in two different venues for the Stourjam festival. There is a very healthy music scene in Stourport-upon-Severn and the festival sees the town's 15 or so music venues replace the usual DJs, covers and tribute bands with original live music for a weekend. We're playing The Black Star on Friday 5th June and the Severns Club on Saturday the 6th. The festival committee organises a Battle of the bands for the town's student age bands giving them a chance to compete for a spotin the festival. The heats feature a special guest appearance by bands that are playing the festival, and we are doing our bit after the last heat of the competition on the evening 12th February at The Port House, Stourport. That's all for now, hope this year is treating you well so far!
Bio
KOTQM's music is a cocktail of influences. An original mix of British Invasion influenced root and blues rock, and the kind of Southern rock that has some funk and soul in it. Of course, listing genres only gets you so far. We like to think we're hard to pin down, with the pigeons firmly out of their holes. We've worked hard to channel an eclectic array of influences into writing a really varied set of songs. But what we've been really stoked to hear from fans is that whatever direction we take it, it always sounds like KOTQM. Songs that we hope will move you and stay with you, performed with love by seasoned musicians. Our gigs and releases have attracted great reviews and airplay, but more importantly to us they get audiences grooving and calling for encores at every gig, and that's what we live for.
Kings of the Quarter Mile are: Pete Juzl/vocals and guitar, Dave Smaylen/drums and vocals, Brian Richards/bass, Jenny Curtis/ vocals and guitar, Stuart Benson-Newman/Keyboards
Previous members have included: Steve Counsell/vocals and guitar, who wrote many of the great songs on the first two albums and sang them , Simon Moth/Keyboards who provided inspired playing on those records, and Darren Wetherhilt/vocals and guitar, who also successfully undertook frontman duties for a stretch.
Scroll down for our albums, and details of forthcoming gigs. You can cut out the middle man by buying our records from Bandcamp, or follow links to stream at Spotify or keep across the band's activities - hope to see you soon!
